Weaning Part 2
I felt fairly prepared in most aspects of motherhood when I was pregnant.
I read a lot of books about my changing body. I knew the kind of labor I wanted to have. I studied up on the best car seat to buy, the non-toxic furniture that was recommended, how to achieve safe sleep.
But breastfeeding was a journey that ROCKED me. I was absolutely unprepared and I’m not sure any amount of books could have truly helped. If you’ve never done it, it’s impossible to know. If you have done it, it’s impossible to forget.
I feel so proud of Vonn and so proud of myself, my body. How cool is it that we can do this for our children? How cool is it that we are allowed to stop whenever we want, for whatever reason?
8 months in total, 5 months exclusively and 3 amazing flexible months of combo feeding before the signals were there to stop. And just like that, we’re done!
A few weaning learnings:
Sudafed, Pink Stork No Flow and Sunflower Lecithin daily were my best friends
It took me about 3 months to slowwwwly wean and I didn’t get mastitis. I dropped one feed/pump a week until I was just doing morning and night. Then I just went cold turkey.
Cold cabbage leaves and Advil help with any pain. I have some hilarious cabbage leaf photos I’ll spare you from.
Not facing the water in the shower, wearing tight sports bras and Cabo Creme are other popular recs if needed!
